Greek Doric Columns

Greek Doric Columns

The Greek Doric column is distinctly classical, elegantly detailed and versatile in form. The Greek Doric defers from the other columns included in the Premier Series in that it does not have a base. The shaft rests directly on the surface of the porch or floor and rises to a simple capital consisting of a slightly flared neck crowned with a crisp, square slab. Historically, 20 crisp flutes define the shaft.

The Doric column is the first documented column of Classical architecture, and named for the Dorians of Ancient Greece. The Greek Doric column holds a strong place in the identity of revival architecture, and has long been employed as a symbol of strength as applied to federal buildings, banks, libraries and utilities.
